The 411 on Oil Cleansing

Slickity Rickity

Warning: Your mind might be blown after reading this blog post.

Oil ..on .. your face. Oil on your face? OIL ON YOUR FACE.

Oil cleansing is when you deliberately rub oil all over your face for an extended period of time, with hope that it will take off all of the makeup and dirt. Leaving behind a fresh faced babe.

Could it be true? Could it be possible? Could it be ethical? Could it be morally responsible?

Answer to all- one big fat yes.

The lowdown- Most people, if not everyone, is skeptical at the thought of this. But it actually makes a lot of sense – like attracts like, so oil dissolves oil.

The oil you rub on your skin dissolves the oil on your skin that has become hardened with impurities and stuck in your pores. Gross, but true.

This method is really good for the skin; it’s not drying and doesn’t strip the skin of it’s natural oil, which then keeps the oil production balanced because the skin doesn’t have to overcompensate.

Some may have a ‘purging’ period, but that’s only because all of the impurities are being brought to the surface. The purging period can last up to a couple weeks, but if it continues past that you should stop using that oil.

Some people have more sensitive skin than others, so an oil that one person uses to cleanse may cause the other person to breakout. This is where you just need to be patient and get to know your skin. If you do think you have sensitive skin, use an oil that has a low comedogenic rating.

How to Oil Cleanse-

Pour about a quarter size amount onto clean hands and massage onto dry skin. Use smooth, circular strokes, and massage for about 1-2 minutes.

Place a washcloth under really hot water, wring it out, and then place onto face. This will create steam and remove the oil and it’s impurities. Keep washcloth on the skin until it cools, repeat if necessary.

And there ya have it- Is your mind totally blown?

An easy, simple, natural way to cleanse the skin. Take care of your face, you only have one!
